Ford swept the front row in qualifying for the Daytona 500 with former race winners Joey Logano and Michael McDowell shocking powerhouse Hendrick Motorsports. Hendrick drivers had won the pole at Daytona in eight of the past nine year years. Hendrick driver Kyle Larson qualified third. Logano won the “Great American Race” in 2015. McDowell won in 2021. The rest of the lineup will be set tonight in the annual “Duel” races.
Former Hendrick driver and seven-time champion Jimmie Johnson did not qualify on speed last night, and will have to race his way into the Daytona 500 tonight. The hall-of-fame driver and car owner at Legacy Motorsports is not running a full-time schedule.
