Former Penguins goaltender Tom Barrasso was one of three net-minders who were inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame last night in Toronto. Barrasso had 369 career victories, which ranks fourth all-time among American-born goaltenders and won two Stanley Cups with the Pens. He has been eligible since 2006. Barrasso was joined by Henrik Lundqvist and Tom Vernon. Two other players and two coaches were also honored.
The Penguins announced last weekend that they will retire former star forward Jaromir Jagr’s jersey in a ceremony surrounding their February 18th game against the Los Angeles Kings. He was a member of the Penguins for 11 seasons and helped them win their first two Stanley Cups. Jagr has the second-most points in NHL history behind only Wayne Gretzky. He served three seasons as the Penguins captain after Mario Lemeiux retired. Jagr will be the third member of the Penguins organization to receive the honor, along with Mario Lemieux’s #66 and Michel Briere’s #21. Briere was killed in an automobile accident in 1971 after a promising rookie season.
