An Allegheny County man accused of sexually assaulting a Seneca Valley Student during the school day and then later charged for possessing child sexual abused material has pled no contest and will be sentenced later this year.
According to our news partners at WPXI-TV, in November 2022, 27-year-old Matthew Cowan of Brackenridge, a security guard for a private company working for the school district, was accused of kissing and touching a 17-year-old girl.
Its alleged the two were exchanging alcohol and marijuana for pornographic pictures of the victim. Cowan was then fired from his position with the private company after charges were filed.
In December 2022, Cowan would then be charged with 14 counts of possessing child sexual abuse material, 20 counts of disseminating abuse material, and 20 counts of criminal use of a communication facility.
The charges were filed after the victim and several other victims reported to police that they had also sent pictures to Cowan.
On Tuesday, Cowan pled no contest to the charges of indecent assault and dissemination of photos depicting child sexual abuse material.
After the Sexual Offenders Assessment Board evaluates Cowan he will officially be sentenced in September. But a plea agreement will see him receive 24 to 84 months in prison but Cowan will be paroled at sentencing and then complete the remaining time on electric monitoring.
He will than have to complete 36 months of probation.
