High School Sports:
–The Freeport girls volleyball team won the WPIAL Class 2A championship Saturday with a 3-1 victory over Shenango. It was the Yellow Jackets seventh overall title and third in the past four years.
–North Catholic captured the Class 3A title with a with a 3-1 victory over South Fayette.
–Pine-Richland upset North Allegheny 3-2 to win the Class 4A championship.
Butler Cross Country runner Drew Griffith finished runner-up at the PIAA Class 3A championships in Hershey Saturday.
The Grove City boys won the Class 2A team championship. They had two runners finish in the top 10 individually, led by M.J. Pottinger who was fifth.
WPIAL Soccer championships:
–The Mars girls three-year reign ended when they fell 1-0 to Moon in the Class 3A title game. The loss ended the Planets 80-game unbeaten streak.
–Seneca Valley fell to Pine-Richland 1-0. It was the Raiders first loss since Butler pulled out a 1-0 win September, 24, 2020.
District 10 football playoffs:
–Grove City will face Sharon this Friday in the Class 3A semifinals. Slippery Rock will face Hickory.
–Butler lost 62-7 to McDowell in the District 10 Class 6A championship.
Mars fell 43-0 to McKeesport Friday in the WPIAL Class 4A playoffs.
