A large amount of state funding will go towards rail freight improvement projects including one in Butler County.
The Pittsburgh and Shawmut Railroad has been approved for just over $3 million to rehabilitate approximately 20 miles of track, add an additional 6 miles of track, install two switch machines, and improve a grade crossing in the Butler Yard as well as Cameron and Elk counties.
This is part of $53 million being distributed statewide through the Rail Transportation Assistance and the Rail Freight Assistance Programs.
This funding will allow for a total of 30 improvement projects to be completed statewide while creating or sustaining over 450 jobs.
