After two years without students, plans to transfer ownership of the Butler Middle School are still under discussion.
A recent update by Superintendent Dr. Brian White stated that one of the groups that had interest in the facility “isn’t in a position to move forward like they thought they were going to be.”
White plans to continue to hold meetings with representatives of Butler County and the Community Development Corporation over the next several weeks to decide on next steps.
“We remain committed as a school district that this does not turn into a place of blight in the center of Butler,” White said. “We understand the importance of this location, but we also have to be cognizant of the financial reality to the school district. Our mission is to serve children. So we’re going to have to make decisions that are prudent for the district and the community.”
White expects to have an update for the board about this situation next month.
