The Pennsylvania Game Commission is warning drivers of deer as the become more active.
Due to daylight saving time, drivers are on the road more often when deer are active. This is also the lead-up time to deer mating season when deer become more active.
According to the Game Commission, Pennsylvania drivers have some of the highest risks of a vehicle collision with deer and led the nation in animal-collision insurance claims in the 2024-25 fiscal year.
While driving this fall, make sure to be aware of “Deer Crossing” signage and remember deer travel in groups, meaning just because one deer has crossed the road it does not mean the threat is over.
If you hit a deer and you are not required to report the accident to the game commission but if you keep the deer you must reported it to the game commission within 24 hours.
You can report the collection by calling 1-833-PGC-HUNT or 1-833-PGC-WILD or to have a deer removed from the side of the road at 1-800-FIX-ROAD.
