Gas prices jumped up both locally as well as across the western Pennsylvania region as a whole during the past week.
According to AAA’s weekly gas price report, the average price for a gallon of regular, unleaded, self-serve gas in Butler, as of Monday, increased by nine cents to reach $3.84 per gallon.
The average gas price across western Pennsylvania as a whole bumped up by a dime over the same period of time to hit $3.84. The most affordable average price for gas in the area can be found in Clarion at $3.71, while the most expensive is in Oil City at $3.89.
The average national gas price climbed six cents over the past week to reach $3.59. This is 19 cents more than a month ago and the same as one year ago. Gas demand increased by a large margin last week and oil prices continue to surge with oil over $85 a barrel which is expected to be the main cause of continuing high gas prices.
