Gas prices continue to increase both locally as well as across western Pennsylvania as a whole this week.
According to AAA’s weekly gas price report, the average price for a gallon of regular, unleaded, self-serve gas in Butler, as of Monday, increased by two cents to reach $3.90 per gallon.
The average gas price across western Pennsylvania as a whole rose by four cents over the same period of time to reach $3.91. The most affordable average price for gas in the area can be found in Sharon at $3.75, while the most expensive is in Oil City at $4.00.
The average national gas price rose by seven cents over the past week to hit $3.82. This is 29 cents more than a month ago but still 24 cents less than one year ago. Demand for gas decreased slightly last week and the price of oil dropped slightly as well but the price is still hovering near $80 a barrel and some refineries are just now returning to normal operations after the recent extreme heat.
