Gas prices have jumped up both locally as well as across the western Pennsylvania region as a whole during the past week.
According to AAA’s weekly gas price report, the average price for a gallon of regular, unleaded, self-serve gas in Butler, as of Monday, increased by 13 cents to reach $3.73 per gallon.
The average gas price across western Pennsylvania as a whole rose by nine cents over the same period of time to hit $3.72. The most affordable average price for gas in the area can be found in New Castle at $3.55, while the most expensive is in Oil City at $3.76.
The average national gas price increased by seven cents over the past week to reach $3.46. This is 19 cents more than a month ago and two cents higher than one year ago. Gas demand continues to ramp up as oil prices continue to rise to nearly $80 a barrel and refineries prepare to transition to the more expensive summer blend gas.
