Gas prices increased both locally as well as across western Pennsylvania as a whole this week.
According to AAA’s weekly gas price report, the average price for a gallon regular, unleaded, self-serve in Butler, as of Monday, increased by six cents over the past week to $3.36 per gallon.
The average gas price across western Pennsylvania as a whole rose by three cents during that same time to reach $3.37. The most affordable average price for gas in the area can be found in New Castle at $3.29 per gallon, while the most expensive is $3.46 in Mercer.
The average national gas price increased by two cents over the past week to $3.19 which matches the seven year high of early August. Hurricanes Ida and Nicholas have slowed oil production and refinery recovery in the Gulf. AAA expects high oil prices and storm-related uncertainty to keep gas prices high even with reduced demand.
