Following the heavy shopping weekend, a national effort is underway to help others.
Today is known as Giving Tuesday, which started in New York City 12 years ago. It kicks off the effort, during the holidays, where people focus on charity.
Although it is a national movement, local organizations can participate too. There are several Butler County nonprofits participating including the Butler County Humane Society, the Cranberry Township Community Chest, Glade Run Lutheran Services, Butler YMCA, the American Red Cross and more.
The national Giving Tuesday effort can be found online at www.givingtuesday.org and #GivingTuesday.
