Pennsylvania continues to prepare for an election in which many people may choose to vote by mail.
According to Governor Tom Wolf, even though this election has been pushed back once already, the state will likely still be dealing with COVID-19 on June 2nd.
“Because of the virus, some Pennsylvanians may be nervous about going to a voting place,” Wolf said. “Fortunately, Pennsylvanians can now vote by mail. Last fall, I signed into law the most sweeping improvements to our elections in 80 years.”
“The bipartisan bill created the new option to vote by mail. At the time, we had no idea how important this change would be for the health and safety of Pennsylvanians,” Wolf added.
Mail in ballots can be requested by logging into VotesPA.com. The PA Department of State recently launched an awareness initiative to make sure voters are aware of this opinion resulting in nearly one million residents signed up to cast a ballot by mail.
“This allows voters to make choices from the safety of their own home. Then send in their ballot through the mail. It just has to be returned before 8 p.m. on Election Day,” Wolf said. “The deadline to apply for a mail-in ballot for the June 2nd primary is May 26th.”
Even though the deadline to apply is still weeks away, those interested should apply as soon as possible to allow for county elections workers enough time to process all applications and mail all ballots.
Polling places will remain open as the Department of State is providing guidance about how to conduct in person voting safely.
