A recent Butler Township event is helping a local organization provide for kids in need.
At their Monday night meeting, the Butler Township Commissioners presented a check to the Golden Tornado Scholastic Foundation with $6,660 in proceeds from their Guys Who Grill event last month.
According to Audray Muscatello Yost, who was on hand to accept the donation on behalf of the foundation, the money will be used to support the soon to begin 9th year of the Kids Weekend Backpack Program.
The organization spent $80,000 last year buying food items from food banks and discount retailers to provide for hundreds of Butler children in need every weekend and holiday when they are not guaranteed a healthy school meal.
