A Harmony man is facing charges after stealing thousands of dollars from a fundraising golf event.
An organization known as Nevin’s Hunting Friends raised over $10,000 during the charity event, but 36-year-old John Minarik is accused of stealing those funds.
Minarik claims that a volunteer with the program is the one who is responsible for stealing the funds. When Daniel Burns, the founder of Nevin’s Hunting Friends, contacted Minarik about the $10,000 said he would not release the funds until after the investigation.
Charging documents claim, after being interviewed by police, Minarik said he spent the money.
When the volunteer with Nevin’s Hunting Friends was interviewed by police, he showed records of funds he was paid for prizes, golf course costs, and money still owed to the golf course.
The volunteer told Minarik to deposit the funds and write a check but Minarik never wrote the check.
He has been charged with theft of services, theft by deception, and theft by fail to make required distribution of funds.
