A motion for a new trial for a man found guilty of sexually assaulting a child with autism was denied late last week.
In January, 47-year-old Shaun Sheffer of Harmony was found guilty of rape and six related counts. Late last month he was in court for a hearing for a new trial.
Sheffer’s attorney argued that the law stature says questions to Sheffer or witnesses about their religion should not have been asked during the trial. That motion however was denied late last week.
Sheffer was arrested as part of a statewide investigation into child sexual abuse cases in the Jehovah Witness faith.
This summer Sheffer was sentenced to 14 to 34 years in a state correctional facility.
