The mayor of Harrisville has died.
Gary Hughes passed away unexpectedly at his home over the weekend.
Hughes had served as mayor of Harrisville since 2013. During that time, he became actively involved with other mayors in the county, creating a series of meetings in order to exchange ideas.
He was also the owner and operator of Hughes Penn Gold Ice Cream Shop on Main Street.
It’s not known who will replace him as mayor.
Hughes was 72.
