Local health officials say the number of tick-borne illness cases is rising in Western Pennsylvania.
According to the Allegheny Health Department, they specifically saw a rise in anaplasmosis cases—which went up by almost 50 percent in 2025.
The number of cases has been on the rise for years according to health officials. The latest local data from 2023 saw Butler County with more than 70 cases that year.
Some health experts say the rise in cases may be due to better diagnosis and testing. They do urge residents to be cautious of ticks while outdoors in Western PA.
