High School Playoffs:
–The Freeport girls soccer team defeated Quaker Valley 2-0 last night in the WPIAL Class 2A Semifinals. The Quakers were the defending champions from 2024. The Yellow Jackets improved to 18-1 this season and will meet Burrell in the championship match, with the day to be determined.
Freeport is seeking its first WPIAL title. The Yellow Jackets fell to Freedom in the title match back in 2016.
–The Seneca Valley boys have joined their girls team in reaching the WPIAL Class 4A championship following a 3-0 Semifinal win over Peters Township last night. Owen Eastgate scored all three goals for the Raiders, who will meet Fox Chapel in the title match this weekend. Peters Township had entered the WPIAL tournament as the top seed and lost for the first time this season. The Raiders are now 17-2 this season.
–Fox Chapel eliminated Plum 3-0 in the other Semifinal last night. The Foxes are the defending WPIAL champions, and improved to 15-2 this season.
All of the WPIAL soccer championship matches will be played at Pittsburgh’s Highmark Stadium, home of the Riverhounds.
In the WPIAL Class 4A Volleyball Semifinals tonight – the North Catholic girls will meet Peters Township at 6pm. The match is part of a doubleheader at Mt. Lebanon high school, with Pine-Richland facing North Allegheny in the other Semifinal match at 7:30pm.
–Warren defeated Slippery Rock 3-0 last night in the District 10 Class 3A Semifinals.
