High School Sports:
Wrestling:
–Seneca Valley won their third consecutive Section 3 title with a 40-24 victory over North Allegheny in the championship match. The Raiders defeated Hampton 50-18 in the semifinals.
–Butler defeated Hampton 42-30 to take third place in Section 3. The Golden Tornado fell to North Allegheny 57-15 in the semifinals.
Boys Basketball:
–AC Valley defeated Clarion 68-56. Levi Orton led AC Valley with 21 points and became the 15th player in school history to reach 1,000 points in a career. He joins his dad Tim as the only father-son duo to have 1,000 point careers in AC Valley history.
–Clarion-Limestone edged Karns City 76-69 in overtime.
–Moniteau-62 Forest Area-47.
–Armstrong-47 Freeport-38.
Girls Basketball:
–North Catholic-70 Highlands-21. Tess Myers led the Trojanettes with 19.
–Freeport-55 Armstrong-29. Sidney Shemanski led the Lady Yellow Jackets with 17.
Bowling:
The Butler High School Bowling teams both swept Seneca Valley 7-0.
–The Butler Boys were led by freshman Rocco Rice who rolled a 720 series with a high game of 253. Senior Chris Huff rolled a 627 and sophomore Brock Hepler rolled a 618. Ryan Thoma led Seneca Valley with a 552 series and high game of 205. Tiler Stoops added a 550 series with a high game of 209.
–The Butler Girls were led by junior Lauren Bash with a 578 series with a high game of 203. Junior Rachael Blose added a 553. Sophomore Katlyn Wolf had a high game of 194. Senior Kaelah Nelson had a 587 series with a high game of 236 for Seneca Valley.
The Butler Girls clinched the North Section title with the victory. Both Butler teams are now 8-0 this season.
Both Seneca Valley teams fell to 3-4.
–Franklin Regional swept Freeport 7-0. Amber Cepec led the Yellow Jackets with a 603 series.
–North Allegheny swept Mars 7-0.
–Armstrong split with Apollo-Ridge. The Armstrong Girls won 7-0. The Apollo-Ridge Boys won 5-2.
