The holiday travel period is expected to pick up significantly today as we begin the Christmas weekend.
AAA is projecting that 115 million Americans will be making a trip over the 10-day holiday travel period.
Saturday is expected to be the worst time to travel by car, with AAA saying most congestion will be from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
They suggest getting on the road early in order to beat traffic.
In the Mid-Atlantic region, AAA projects that just over 900,000 will be flying for Christmas.
The total number of travelers is up compared to last Christmas by around two percent.
