Pennsylvanians experiencing homelessness can now obtain a free initial photo ID or renew a photo ID as a result of a new law.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and the PA Department of Human Services made the announcement late last week that Act 131 of 2020 is now in effect.
Applicants must visit a PennDOT Drivers License Center in person and request a free ID from staff members. The applicant will then be required to certify on paperwork that they are homeless.
Duplicate IDs are not covered under the law change and those fees will continue to apply as will fees for drivers licenses.
