The Carolina Hurricanes defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-2 in overtime last night at PPG Paints Arena. It was the Penguins second consecutive loss. Sidney Crosby scored the game’s opening goal in the first period, it was his 12th goal of the season. The Hurricanes scored twice in the second period to take the lead. Jake Guentzel tied the game with just under a minute remaining in the game, but Carolina scored the game-winner just over two minutes into the overtime.
The Pens played without defenseman Kris Letang, who was a surprise scratch due to what is now known to have been a stroke. They continue their five-game home-stand Thursday when the host the Vegas Golden Knights.
