A two vehicle crash shut down the northbound lanes of Interstate 79 for several hours on Saturday near the Zelienople exit.
According to our news partners at KDKA, the crash happened just before 9am yesterday between a Honda Accord and a pickup truck.
Authorities said that the driver of the Accord was ejected from the vehicle, and was found in the median. Officials described the car as “split in half.” The driver’s condition is currently unknown.
The driver of the pickup suffered minor injuries, and was able to walk away from the scene. They were taken to a local hospital as a precaution.
Police have not yet determined a cause, but their initial investigation proposes that the Accord crossed the median and then was struck by the pickup.
Interstate 79 reopened around 2:15pm on Saturday afternoon.
