The New York Islanders defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-3 in overtime last night to take Game One of their Stanley Cup Playoff Series. The Penguins never led in the game, coming back three times from a one-goal deficit. The Islanders scored the game-winning goal with just over four minutes remaining in the first overtime.
Phil Kessel, Evgeni Malkin and Justin Schultz scored the Penguins goals. Matt Murray stopped 29 of 33 shots in goal for the Pens. The Penguins had 44 shots in the game.
Penguins defenseman Jack Johnson, who played all 82 regular season games for the Penguins, was a healthy scratch to open the playoffs.
Game Two will be Friday in New York. Face-off again is 7:30pm. Pre-game on WISR is 7pm.
