IUP completed a perfect PSAC-West season with a win at Mercyhurst Saturday. The Crimson Hawks will visit West Chester in the PSAC Championship game. IUP is currently 10-0 and finished 7-0 in the PSAC-West this season. They are ranked #3 in the NCAA Division II coaches poll. West Chester is 8-2 overall and have won three consecutive games. The Golden Rams went 6-1 in the PSAC-East.
The Slippery Rock University football team kept postseason hopes alive with a 77-39 win over Seton Hill Saturday. The Rock offense set multiple team records in compiling 795 yards, breaking the previous record of 775 total yards set at Kutztown in 1999. They visit Kutztown for their final regular season game this Saturday. A win should get them a bid for the NCAA playoffs. The Rock are 7-2.
The Penn State playoff hopes went by the wayside Saturday with a 27-24 loss at Michigan State. Also knocked out of contention were the Ohio State Buckeyes, who were beaten by Iowa.
Alabama remains the A.P. #1 followed by Georgia. Notre Dame is #3, followed by Clemson and Oklahoma. Penn State and Ohio State fell out of the nations’ top-10. The Nittany Lions are now 16th.
The Slippery Rock University men’s basketball team fell to Division-1 Pitt Saturday 71-59. The Rock actually led the exhibition game for the opening 16 minutes, and trailed by four points with less than four minutes remaining in an upset bid. Micah Till played his first game for The Rock and led with 15 points, seven rebounds and a steal. The Rock will officially open their season this weekend in Glenville, West Virginia.
SRU runner Jeremy Parsons placed fourth overall at the NCAA D-2 Atlantic Regional Championships Saturday to clinch his third straight trip to the Division-II National Championships. With the top five finish, Parsons earned a trip to the national meet November 18th in Evansville, Indiana. He covered the 10,000 meter course in a time of 31:01, just 10 seconds back of the eventual winner. It was his fourth straight All-Region finish.
