As the start of the 150th British Open approaches Thursday, Jack Nicklaus is being honored by St. Andrews as an “honorary citizen”. Nicklaus becomes just the third American to receive the distinction after Bobby Jones and Benjamin Franklin. He returned to the legendary club Monday, 17 years after getting a birdie on the final hole he ever played in a major golf championship.
The United States Department of Justice has made inquiries through its anti-trust division to agents of several former PGA Tour players who have left for the new Saudi-funded LIV Golf series. The issue of concern is the PGA Tour’s policy that members receive a release to play tournaments overseas when a tour event is being held. The tour denied releases for the first LIV Golf event held outside of London in June.
