It’s Carbon Monoxide Awareness Month and officials are urging customers to take precautions to keep their homes safe.
The CDC estimates that over 400 people die each year due to carbon monoxide poisoning.
Carbon monoxide is difficult to detect because it is odorless and tasteless.
National Fuel officials are offering a safety checklist that includes having carbon monoxide detectors, keeping vents clear and scheduling yearly inspections.
Customers are reminded if they “Smell Gas, Leave Fast” and call National Fuel’s emergency line at 1-800-444-3130.
