A federal judge is moving the case against the Tree of Life shooting suspect forward.
The district judge overseeing the case said now that COVID restrictions are being lifted, it’s time to move the case along. She gave the defense lawyers of alleged shooter Robert Bowers until October 1st to decide whether or not to file an insanity defense.
The Justice Department is seeking the death penalty in the case—while Bowers attorneys say they are asking for a plea deal to spare Bowers life. Bowers is still being held in the Butler County Prison.
October 27th will mark three years since the Tree of Life Synagogue shooting in Squirrel Hill.
