The Karns City community came together Sunday evening to support a student athlete seriously injured during Friday’s football game.
Senior Quarterback Mason Martin collapsed on the field during the third quarter of the contest against Redbank Valley.
An ambulance and STAT MedEvac helicopter were called to transport Martin to UPMC Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh for treatment.
According to a Facebook post from his family, Martin is in critical condition dealing with swelling around the brain and unknown damage.
Karns City Superintendent Eric Ritzert and the district’s varsity football team were joined Sunday night at the football stadium by local clergy members and other friends, family, and classmates.
Counselors will be available for Karns City students and staff Tuesday.
