PIAA Basketball Playoffs:
–The Knoch girls defeated St. Marys 65-35 in their first-ever state playoff game last night in Saxonburg. Maddie Boyer led the Knights with 22 points. She hit a layup in the first quarter that sent her over the 1,000 point mark for her career. Hattie McGraw netted 18, with all of her points coming from six 3-pointers. The Knights hit 15 3-pointers in the game and improved to 22-3 this season.
Knoch will now move on to face District 3 champion Delone Catholic (27-1) Saturday in the Western Region Second Round. Delone Catholic eliminated Montour 58-25 last night.
–The Karns City boys defeated Penns Manor 46-45 in the Class 2A First Round. Taite Beighley created a three-point play for the Gremlins with four seconds remaining to move Karns City into the Second Round Saturday. Their opponent is yet to be determined after the game between Old Forge and Wyalusing was postponed yesterday due to weather. The Gremlins are now 20-8 this season. Beighley completed his night with 18 points.
–The Slippery Rock girls were eliminated by Moon 54-16 in the 5A First Round.
The North Catholic girls game against Lakeview in the Class 3A Western Region Second Round will be played at Slippery Rock University Friday at 7:30pm.
