The Knoch girls’ basketball team defeated the New Castle Red Hurricanes in the first round of the WPIAL 4-A playoffs on Monday night, winning by a final of 43-35.
After a first quarter that featured five points total between the two teams, Knoch took a 22-14 lead into the halftime break. New Castle cut the lead to four after three quarters, but the Knights sank 14 free throws in the fourth quarter to earn the win.
Leading the Knights offensively were Madilyn Boyer with 15 points, Nevaeh Ewing and Nina Shaw with nine points each, and Abbey Shearer with seven points.
With the win, Knoch will move on to the second round of the 4-A playoffs and will play Central Valley on Thursday night at a site and time to be determined. You can catch all of Thursday’s action, starting with pregame coverage on WISR 680AM.
