Kyle Busch broke a 33-race losing streak by winning the rain-delayed Cup Series race at Texas Motor Speedway Wednesday evening. It was his fourth career victory at the track. He has now won a Cup Series race in 16 consecutive seasons. It was his 57th career victory.
Martin Truex, Jr. was the runner-up, but he will need a victory this weekend to keep championship hopes alive. His car was found to have an illegal spoiler prior to the race – and he was docked 20 points after the race. Chase Elliott, Alex Bowman are the other contenders who will need some help or a win this weekend. Kurt Busch will also need a victory at Martinsville.
Heading into the third and final race of the third round of the Cup Series playoffs at Martinsville Speedway this Sunday – Joey Logano has a spot in the final race championship – Denny Hamlin, Kevin Harvick and Brad Keselowski are in the final championship point spots.
Hendrick Motorsports has signed Kyle Larson to drive for the organization in 2021. Larson, who was recently reinstated by Nascar from a suspension, will drive the re-introduction of the Hendrick #5 car – with Hendrick eliminating the #88 number. Larson has signed a multi-year contract. He was fired by Chip Ganassi Racing following his suspension for a racial comment made during a Nascar “virtual” race.
