Lancaster Township Supervisors approved an ordinance to authorize taking on debt to purchase land in Harmony for a municipal campus.
The township will be buying the property at 600 Perry Highway that currently houses four buildings. The nearly 13-acre property will allow for Lancaster to immediately begin the process to move in once the sale is final.
The previous option was to buy property and build on that location, however the new plan will save the township money.
Three of the buildings will house the administration offices, the works department, and the police department. They will also have space to build a community center between the two buildings.
The hope is the fourth building will eventually be torn down and the fire department will be able to build a new building. The property will also connect to Four Springs Park.
The cost of the property will be around $1 million but the township was approved for a $2 million loan with an interest just below four percent but officials say it’s unlikely they take on the full $2 million.
A closing date has not been announced.
