Another push is being made by some in the state legislature to increase dog license fees.
A bill was introduced earlier this week that would see the fee increase from $6 to $10 per year. Democrat Senator Judy Schwank says the jump is a modest price to pay.
“A modest increase in the licensing fee would go a long way toward making sure the bureau has all the resources it needs to crack down on puppy mills and provide resources to protect the public and other animals from dangerous dogs,” Schwank said.
The state Secretary of Agriculture Russell Redding has also joined in calling for the increased fees.
The Bureau of Dog Law Enforcement has had funding problems over the past couple of years. Advocates of this bill say that this is the most logical way to help out the department.
