Lawmakers are once again debating if high school athletes who play sports year-round should be required to take gym class.
State Senator Cris Dush, who represents parts of northern and central Pennsylvania, has proposed a bill that would allow high school athletes who play at least two sports to not take gym class.
Dush has previously proposed this bill but the bill had never left committee.
Students would be able to use the extra school time to complete homework or take an additional class.
With a vote of 6-4 in favor of the proposal it will move to the senate floor when the senate returns in June.
