A new analysis finds the financial cost over a lifetime of smoking for a person who lives in Pennsylvania surpasses $4 million.
WalletHub calculated the potential monetary losses for someone who smokes a pack a day. They found out-of-pocket costs were just over $200,000 but factored in health care costs, financial opportunity cost, along with other numbers to reach the average cost of $4.7 million.
WalletHub also estimated the economic costs of smoking totaled more than $600 billion in the U.S.
