Local leaders are joining a nationwide effort to raise awareness about underage gambling.
The Butler County Prevention Team is partnering with the “Gift Responsibly Campaign” to urge gift-givers to avoid lottery tickets and scratch offs as gifts for teens.
Officials say gambling is a growing risk for the younger population and that most young people’s exposure is through lottery tickets.
Research shows that early exposure to gambling in childhood is “highly correlated with the development of a gambling problem later in life.”
