A local man had the opportunity recently to lay a wreath at the tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Washington D.C.
Steve Monteleone says it was a surprise to him that his organization, It’s About the Warrior Foundation, was even nominated.
He says one of the men in the organization, a veteran who is still active duty Army, a 1st Seargant nominated the organization. A year ago, IAWF was chosen but the event date was canceled three times because of COVID.
Monteleone was able to finally lay the wreath at Arlington National Cemetery on Saturday, July 31st.
He said it was an emotional experience saying, “It was a heck of an honor, being a veteran. When you are stanind there, you can feel a sense of something great. I don’t know what it is but it was really powerful. It was really great.”
Steve is a retired Air Force veteran as of 1992. He graduated from Butler Senior High School and then Slippery Rock University.
His organization offers services like mental health, financial, and physical assistance to veterans in the post – 9/11 era.
