A Butler County student has received an award for his entry expressing concern about littering.
The Litter Hawk Youth Award Program asks students from kindergarten through sixth grade to create an art, writing, or video project about concerns of littering.
Alec, a fifth grader at Haine Middle School, won second place for his essay.
More than 500 entries were submitted and the theme for this year’s project was “Celebrate America 250 – Keep It Beautiful!” The winning artwork will be displayed through April 30 in the Main Rotunda of the Pennsylvania Capital building.
This program is funded by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection and PA Turnpike Commission. All winners were invited to attend a ceremony honoring the litter Hawk Youth Award winners in Harrisburg.
