An employee with the Butler VA Health Care System was honored earlier this month for being an extraordinary nurse.
Karen Dunn was honored by the not-for-profit DAISY Foundation for her commitment to her patients. Dunn has been a nurse for 30 years.
The veteran that nominated her for the award said he appreciated her creative arts classes. He went on to say that “I had a coughing and sneezing fit which caused me to rupture several blood vessels in my eye. Karen saw this and immediately sent me to the medical room.”
The DAISY Foundation was started in the memory of the nurses that took care of J. Patrick Barnes, a veteran who died at the age of 33 from a little known auto-immune disease.
