Some local artists will be showcasing their talents today in downtown Butler.
Jeff Geibel, Chair of the Design Committee of Butler Downtown, says this will not be like the large murals that we’ve seen in recent years. Instead he says, “We’re calling it pop-up street art. These are smaller designs. The idea is to take ordinary objects in the city and bring it to life through art.”
Wednesday, July 8, 2020, will kick off the effort at 5pm with two locations. The first location where you can watch the local artists work will be at Sir Speedy . Individuals will be working on the lower portion of the businesses’ storefront. The second site will be the sidewalk in what was known as Ruffles and Truffles or also known as Ralph’s Shoes.
Butler Downtown has worked with the Butler Arts Center, which is where the artists will be coming from. Geibel says Butler Downtown has also worked with local property and business owners for the locations. There are about 10 designs that are being planned but Geibel says ideas are welcomed.
Butler Downtown is buying the supplies for the artists.
Again, you are welcome to watch the artists at work as this is open to the public.
