A longtime religious educator in the Butler area was celebrated for her decades of service earlier this week.
Sister Nancy Schnur was joined by hundreds of parishioners over the weekend at Saint Michael the Archangel Church to celebrate her 70th Jubiliee.
Schnur first joined the Sisters of the Divine Providence in 1955. She then became an educator, which included time as the principal of Butler Catholic School in the 90s.
At the retirement party Saturday, Sister Nancy received a Pirates jersey from Pittsburgh Pirates manager Don Kelly.
Schnur is set to retire in January after 70 years of service.
Don Kelly is a special human. The @Pirates skipper surprised Sr. Nancy Schnur on Saturday night w/a personalized jersey, honoring her for 70 years in a religious community! (She is retiring in January.) Hundreds showed up at St. Michael the Archangel Church in Butler. Thank you,… pic.twitter.com/5Ycm02HAFs
