A Butler man is facing charges after he allegedly stole and killed a woman’s dog.
Police were first called to a home in Butler City to investigate a burglary on January 5. There was no sign of forced entry and the only thing stolen was a dog.
The victim first accused 27-year-old Joseph Hilliard of stealing the dog. She told police that she ended a friendship with Hilliard, and believed he stole the dog as retribution.
Hilliard initially denied taking the dog, but 20 days later police say he admitted to stealing and killing the dog.
He has been placed in the Butler County Prison on $100,000 cash bond and is facing several charges including felony one burglary and aggravated cruelty to animals.
