State police have charged a man who allegedly scammed a Muddy Creek Township man out of $140,000.
Our news partners at WPXI report that Sandeep Seelam of India is facing a number of charges for the scam.
Police say that the elderly man got an email from what he believed was Pay Pal, requesting to verify a transaction on his account.
He called the phone number and spoke with a person who claimed to be an FTC agent—that man convinced him his bank account was hacked.
He was then told to withdraw cash and place it into a Bitcoin ATM.
The victim got suspicious and told police, who then set up a sting operation at the victim’s home.
That’s when Seelam showed up and was attempted to steal $80,000.
He was taken into custody and is facing numerous charges.
