A man is facing animal cruelty charges after two dogs were found in garbage bags in Butler Township.
The investigation began Friday evening after a State Police officer pulled into the General Vagabonds Center in Lyndora to let his K9 unit urinate.
The K9 then immediately took off and found two garbage bags, which had two dead German Shepard dogs. Both dogs had collars and were chipped, which led police to the Connoquenessing Township home of Paul Frederick.
Frederick initially denied knowing anything about the dogs, before admitting to police his son was supposed to bury them at the Vagabonds.
Police believed the dogs deaths were suspicious and sent for a medical evaluation. According to the results, the dogs were 30 pounds underweight, had no muscle mass, no fluids and died of starvation.
Police received a warrant and returned to the Double Road home of Frederick and removed more than 50 animals. Troopers say Frederick became agitated during this time, and ultimately resisted arrest. He was eventually handcuffed and taken into custody.
