Mars Area School District students will be holding collections of food and socks beginning this week as well as encouraging colorful footwear for a special cause.
The Fall Food Drive will accept non-perishable food items through Monday, November 3rd. Items can be dropped off at the school’s main office Monday through Friday during school hours. The items will go to local families in need through Inspired Hearts and Hands. Those who prefer to sponsor a food basket for $30 can do so online.
Also, students in the Mars Area High School German Club are holding a Sock Drive Monday through Friday. Sock donations will help Pittsburgh’s homeless residents through the Harvest Street Mission. Donations of new socks can be dropped off at any of the Mars Area School District buildings during school hours.
Finally, students and staff across the district are encouraged to wear bright or mismatched socks on Tuesday to recognize Down Syndrome Awareness Month as a time for acceptance and inclusion.
