The Mars Area School Board does not anticipate the need to raise taxes in order to meet their 2021-22 school year budget.
According to school board members, federal assistance will be used to help balance next year’s budget. Megan Lenz was the only board member to vote against the proposal due to “no buffer for the unknown”.
Mars is one of many districts dealing with increased expenses as a result of more students electing to attend cyber charter schools. The amount of money needed to be used from the district’s general fund next year will depend on how many of those students choose to return.
The proposed budget for next year is available for public review through the Mars website well as at the District’s school buildings and administration offices. Parents and community members may submit questions or comments regarding the proposed budget to Mars Area School Board via e-mail or at next month’s public board meetings.
The board is expected to adopt the final budget in June.
