The Mars Area School District is increasing the rate of pay for substitute employees.
By unanimous vote at their Tuesday meeting, the school board approved a motion that would increase pay for substitutes from $110 to $115 per day.
Retired Mars teachers working as day-to-day substitutes will now be paid a rate of $125 per day up from $120 previously. This pay was last adjusted in January of 2022.
Also, any substitute who works 30 days for Mars in the current school year will have a rate increase to $125 per day for the rest of the year.
Finally, the Mars Board approved an increase of $2 per hour for secretaries and custodians, bringing that rate up to $15 per hour as well as $4 an hour for maintenance substitutes to arrive at $20 per hour.
