The Mars Area School Board is considering a change to next year’s school calendar.
At the Tuesday night meeting board members and administrators discussed the possibility of designating two days off next spring as make up days for the first two days missed due to weather next year. If in-person instruction is not possible on any additional days, remote learning would be used.
Administrators conducted a recent survey of parents and out of 1,200 who responded 59% were in favor of sticking with the way that the district currently handles weather cancellations with remote learning while 41% voted for the first two snow days off and made up later in person proposal. A survey of staff members revealed that 80% wanted to keep things the same while 20% were in favor of the revised plan for weather cancellations.
A vote on this proposal for the 2026-27 school year is expected at next month’s meeting of the Mars Area School Board.
